Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at nik@serving-style.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Absolutely, honey!  Staging your house is still worth it, even if you're living in it. Think of it as giving your home a fabulous makeover so it can strut its stuff on the real estate runway. Staging helps potential buyers see the true star quality of your space by highlighting its best features and creating an easy-to-take-in and welcoming vibe. It also helps buyers look past your personal belongings and imagine their own fabulous lives unfolding there, which is key to making an emotional connection. It may take a little effort to keep your property looking flawless while you’re living in it—but quicker offers and a better price? That’s worth the werk!

The best time to stage your property is before it goes on the market. Staging is most effective when it's done prior to listing photos and showings, as first impressions, especially online, are crucial in attracting potential buyers. You only get one chance to debut your property, and you want it to get rave reviews!

Expect to hear a lot of suggestions! Open your mind to Nik’s ideas that are geared toward getting your house sold and getting you the most money out of it. Our staging consultation is verbal, so you may want to take notes or record a voice memo on your phone.  A consultation typically takes about 2 hours to complete. Nik will view all areas of the property and then formulate a plan for each space. He will take you through each area inside and out, giving his recommendations while you take notes. You get to decide how much of that list you are able and/or willing to implement.

Before our consultation, Nik suggests making a list of any questions or concerns you have. No need to clean or rearrange, and don’t start packing away stuff!  Nik needs to see everything available to work with. He’ll take it from there!

Not necessarily. Our first approach is always to work with what you already have. If any additional pieces are needed to really make your property show the best it can, we’ll discuss the options to enhance your existing furnishings.

Our goal is to make staging your home as smooth and stress free as possible. Nik will create a customized staging plan that works for you and your comfort level.  You may even find that the process is actually fun and get some ideas for styling your new place!

We primarily serve the Portland Metro area. If you're unsure whether you're in our service area, feel free to reach out—Nik is always happy to chat. Virtual design advice is also available through our ReStyle service.

Absolutely, and the numbers back it up. In competitive markets, staged homes have sold for up to 20% more than their unstaged competition. And let’s talk speed... Staged homes sell up to 73% faster. Homes that Nik consulted on often sell for 10% or more above list price. Bottom line? A little effort in staging can mean a quicker sale and a bigger payday!

Here’s another key stat: A whopping 96% of buyers start their home search online. That means your listing photos need to pop, and staging helps them shine. When your home looks polished, clean, and inviting from the very first click, buyers are far more likely to schedule that showing. So, yes, staging an occupied home absolutely pays off, and in today’s market, it’s not just smart; it’s strategic.

Nik owned and was lead designer of Synergy Staging, a premiere award-winning home staging company that served Portland, Oregon for 15 years. His home staging sold over $250 million of property throughout the metro area and received exclusively 5-Star reviews from his clients.
